Anthropocene, porcelain, 2020 - 2021
The thousands of perforations that cover each hand coiled form is a process underpinned by metaphor. Each indelible mark symbolising humanity’s ecological impact directly into the clay body.
The forms are biomorphic in nature and suggestive of movement alike the human body extending, bending and growing, each form undulating with porcelain coils and later with the pressure of perforation. This body of work is a visual elegy for the sea, coalescing humans and nature.
Caitlin Lang's Anthropocene is both a finalist and highly commended in the 2022 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize. Works are available for purchase in exhibition or contact for commission.
